Interview: DeCapri Inspired by Fellow St. Ann Artistes, Talks Dancehall, New Music and More

Florida-based Jamaican Dancehall artiste DeCapri who has been consistently releasing new music and quality videos over the years is stepping up his game as he seeks to become a star player on the Dancehall scene.
The St. Ann-born deejay has been busy juggling music and being a businessman as he seeks to bring his business mindset to the musical world. According to DeCapri whose birth name is Ray Brown, his stage name was inspired by the actor Dicaprio, his sense of style and his humility.
While growing up in Jamaica, being a part of the group “St. Ann Groovers” was the first musical experience for DeCapri, an experience that made DeCapri decide that he wanted to do music professionally.
In a chat with Yardhype, the 35-year-old who was born on March 9, 1995, highlights that some of the greatest artistes in Reggae and Dancehall are from St. Ann, and he’s influenced and inspired by them. He also detailed that he’s currently working with Insane Sounds to help push his career.

Q: How long have you been doing Music and what inspired you to start?
A: From i young, music is something I grew up on….My uncle owned a sound system hence from a youth i was inspired.
Q: Where in Jamaica are you from?
A: Orange Hill, Browns Town St. Ann.
Q: Your favourite Dancehall Artistes of all time?
A: My favourite Dancehall artiste is Bounty Killer.
Q: Who’s your Favourite Reggae Artiste?
A: My favourite Reggae artiste is Beres Hammond.
Q: Which musician has been most influential in your musical career in terms of their musical style or one you have worked with?
A: That would be Beenie Man.
Q: What Keeps You grounded? (Things you do to relax/chill)
A: I’m grounded because of God and I am inspired by my family.
Q: What do you miss the most about Jamaica?
A: My family I miss the most.
Q: What’s your Favourite Jamaican dish?
A: Curried goat and white rice.
Q: Which do you hold in more regard, and why: Reggae Grammy Award or a song in top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart?
A: The Reggae Grammy is the biggest achievement, this is what my country represents.
Q: List your top 3 songs, as in the songs you get the best reaction for when you perform with number one being the top song.
A: My Time, Heavy and Meet Again.
Q: What’s your latest released song?
A: My latest released song is titled ‘Bad Like You’.
Q: Do you have another family member in music?
A: 15. Yes my cousins are in music.
Q: When last you visited Jamaica?
A: July 2024.
Q: Do you think nowadays Dancehall has the potential to outdo the Dancehall of the 90s or 2000s, also what you believe will improve the reach of nowadays Dancehall aka Trap Dancehall?
A: No …its actually an infusion of the 90s …we have to pay respect to the 90s Dancehall.
Q: Any popular artiste you would want to work with in the future?
A: Masicka
