Many persons were left traumatised in Downtown Kingston on Monday when a bus conductor was fatally stabbed, reportedly over a dispute involving just $150. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Kemar Myrie, also known as ‘Paul,’ was attacked along Orange Street near Heywood Street shortly after midday.

According to police reports, Myrie got into an argument with a bus driver. The altercation escalated when the driver left his vehicle, approached Myrie, and stabbed him in the neck before fleeing the scene on foot. A friend rushed Myrie to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The brutal attack left passengers horrified, with blood splattered across the bus. One street vendor, still shaken by the incident, expressed relief that her granddaughter had gotten off the bus moments before the stabbing.

“Mi sit dung right here so and see when the man rush go pon the bus. Mi never know is what, but mi just hear the commotion,” she recounted to a Jamaica Star reporter.

Myrie’s longtime colleagues who also work in the area are struggling to come to terms with his sudden death, especially over such a minor dispute. “Mi can’t believe him dead over $150,” a fellow conductor lamented.

Police are investigating the incident, it’s unclear if the suspect was apprehended.
