Reggae artiste Anthony B is imploring the Jamaican music industry to “wake up” and “start cleaning up our mess”, as he aims to have persons acknowledge that the Reggae and Dancehall music genre is losing its authenticity.
This declaration by the “Reggae Gone Pon Top” artiste is in response to the recent announcement that was made by Billboard when they announced that they will be creating the first-ever US chart for Afrobeats Songs. However, in January 2020, they had cancelled the Reggae Digital Song Sales chart.
The entertainer indicated in a post that was recently shared to his Instagram page that he does not usually vent on social media, however, Jamaica’s dying music culture is of utmost importance and needs to be addressed immediately. He went on to salute Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Wizkid and affirmed that the contents of his post are not aimed towards him nor his music.

According to Anthony B, nowadays artistes are contributing to the decline of the Reggae and Dancehall genre that has earned the respect of many globally. He outlined that the music is lacking substance and the media along with persons who are supporting this debauchery of music that glorifies nothing but crime and sex should be held accountable.
Furthermore, speculations arise that the Original Fireman is alluding to the fact that entertainers in Dancehall have been dominating the Reggae Albums Chart; namely Shenseea and Spice.
Shenseea’s debut album “ALPHA” recently placed second on the Reggae Album Billboard Chart below Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend, which has consecutively reigned at the top position for an impressive 115 weeks. Whereas in 2019, Spice’s album “10” debuted at number 6 and in 2018 she received a plaque for the number 1 spot for her mixtape “Captured” on the Reggae Albums Billboard Chart.
On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Billboard will be premiering live the US Afrobeats Songs chart which will rank the top 50 most popular Afrobeat songs in the United States of America (USA).
