Atkinson Grabs Another Gold In 50m Breaststroke On World Cup Tour

[Sharingbuttons]Olympic swimmer Alia Atkinson won gold at the Beijing leg of the Fina/Airweave world cup tour yesterday.

Atkinson won gold in a time of 29.57 seconds about a second off her world record in the event and was the only swimmer in the field to break the 30-second barrier. She is also the fastest and most consistent breaststroke swimmer in the history of the short course world cup.

Junyang Feng from Fina’s international club grabbed the silver with a time of 30.40 seconds and the bronze went to china’s Ran suo who touched the wall in 30.44 seconds.

It was Atkinson’s fifth consecutive win in the event this season following previous gold medal performances in Moscow, Eindhoven, Hong Kong and Qatar.She currently holds the world record of 28.64 seconds in the 50 metres breastroke event.
