Buchanan spoke about the matter on Monday while attending a court hearing for two clients namely Jevaughn Callum and Jostein Callum, who were charged under the DRMA on August 7th after they were seen in the Browns Town square after curfew hours.

According to the reports surrounding the case, the brothers admitted to having been in the Browns Town Square; however, they said that they had been there because they were waiting for transportation to go home.

In the court case on Monday, it is said that Isat Buchanan, pleaded for the judge to be lenient with his clients because they were treated badly on the night of the occurrence.

Both brothers were eventually given fines of $25000 each however, the popular Attorney said that it was perhaps time for the DRMA to be put to the constitutional courts, with him further commenting that the Callum brothers would be the perfect complainants for testing its use and operation in the pandemic.

Isat Buchanan spoke more about the matter to TVJ news, who covered the situation by letting them know that the DRMA is turning regular men and women into criminals and that the consequences of violating the regulations carry a sense of extortion to it, especially when the persons implicated do not have the funds.

Many persons including entertainers have expressed their distaste for the fines associated with violating the DRMA, and this might just be the beginning of a mass movement since most Jamaicans seem to be against the curfew times as measures to fight the spread of the virus.

Isat Buchanan is well known for being the Attorney defending incarcerated Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel whilst also being the son of veteran deejay, Manley Buchanan also known as ‘Big Youth’.
