Attorneys Who Represent Mavado’s son Plan for Appeal

The defense team for Dante Brooks, Mavado’s son is getting ready to appeal the verdict that was handed down by the judge after sentencing recently. Brooks and his co accused Andre Hinds were both handed lifetime prison sentences on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Attorneys QC Peter Champagnie, Oswest Senior Smith, Miss Tameka Harris and Mr. Kemar Robinson respects the decision of the court but they still have a right to appeal and their clients asked them to do so.

Blame was laid at the feet of the police at the Constant Spring Police Station as it is alleged that witnesses were forced to say things that were not true. Persons were interviewed and released even though they were connected to the case. There were other inconsistencies when witnesses were not being truthful while they were giving evidence, even when they were not being forced.

The main focus of the appeal will be the conviction itself and the grounding of the conviction because if that falls they can go to the issue of sentencing. Due to the many inconsistencies that were detected, the lawyers believe there is a fertile ground for an appeal.

Watch as lead attorney QC Peter Champagnie explains their next move below.

Dante who is 18 years must serve 22 years before he can go on parole while Andre Hinds must serve 17 years before being eligible for parole. Brooks got a 15-year sentence for arson and 20 years for illegal possession of a firearm while Hinds got 15 years for arson and 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm.

Both men were found guilty on January 27th, 2021 in the Home Circuit Court and said to be two of several men who entered the house where Thomas was staying and killed him, the Killing was allegedly witnessed by Thomas’ father who was reportedly put in another room.
