A woman was identified as the individual whose new-born baby was found in a pit latrine by the residents in Cox Piece, St Mary, recently.
The Superintendent of Police in St. Mary, Bobbette Morgan reported that the woman who is allegedly the baby’s mother is now in hospital.
Residents heard the cries coming from the area where the toilet was at about 8pm on Wednesday and went to find out what was happening. They knew the baby was there, but they were unable to take the baby out until Thursday morning.
The baby and the mother are both in stable condition, in the St. Ann’s Bay hospital. Due to the state the child was in, the police believe the mother gave birth the previous night and then put the baby in the toilet.
The police did not decide if they would be charging the mother right away.
