A thirty-two-year-old employee of the armoured carrier company Beryllium and his common-law wife were arrested on Tuesday for lottery scamming.

The man, whose name has not been revealed, was employed at Beryllium as a treasury custodian, while his spouse, also 32, was a former employee at the company. The couple resided at Caribbean Estate in Portmore, St. Catherine, where they were taken into custody by the authorities.

In addition to four luxury vehicles, two firearms and over $100 million were seized during the police’s operation, which commenced at 5 a.m. yesterday. According to reports from Nationwide News, the sum consists of more than JM $64 million, over US $300,000, and £11,000.

Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC), Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony McLaughlin, disclosed that the couple will be charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Firearms Act. According to McLaughlin, the couple has been on the police’s radar for some time now.

The assistant commissioner also noted that the police have seen an increase in individuals charged for lottery scamming armed with firearms and becoming more violent.
