Friday night many Jamaicans were surprised by strong winds, lightning and rain as a Squall Line made its way across the island. Following the passing of the strange weather, many of the shocked Jamaicans took to social media to share the destruction it caused in their area.
As per The Meteorological Service of Jamaica, southern sections of the island witnessed a “squall line”, highlighting that the freak weather made a “sudden start lasting for a short while and drifting from one area to the next.”
Prime Minister Andrew Holness took to social media to make a statement on the matter and at the end of the statement he asked, “I know it caught many by surprise! What did you think of it?”
Most of the footage shared online shows trees and light posts down in the corporate area. Coronation Market in Downtown, Kingston was not spared by the sudden turn of events which the footage also shows. Scenes from Portmore were also shared online.
While St. Thomas, St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew were mainly affected by the Squall Line, other areas including the Northcoast received windy weather and rain Friday night, notably, a lesser version of what took place on the Southcoast.
The weather condition which started in southeast Jamaica was projected to make its way across Jamaica, affecting western parishes in later hours.
