Bounty Killer diss the Grammys for awarding the ‘Best Reggae Album’ to the American band SOJA for their album ‘Beauty In The Silence’ Sunday.
Many people have been very upset that the ‘Best Reggae Album’ 2022 was awarded to a group of white men instead of going to one of the Jamaican nominees at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards and people have been angrily claiming that the Grammys was rigged.
Among those irritated persons is Grung Gaadzilla himself, Bounty Killer, who took to his Instagram to say the Grammys “sell out”.
Reposting a clip of SOJA giving an acceptance speech after receiving the Grammy, Bounty Killer captioned the post, “What a big piece a sell out gwaan ya so white folks winning best reggae album over Jamaicans wtf,” and also added at the end “FUCK DI GRAMMY’S”.
Meanwhile, two of the nominees posted something completely different. Etana posted a picture of the band and wrote “Congratulations” indicating that there were no hard feelings, whereas Spice left a message for her fans who were expecting her to win.
“Besties don’t cry we’ve come along way. Remember I came from Homeless to this day so I’m really still very humbled and grateful, I see all your support and disappointments but you know we never give up, we back at it again tomorrow!! I love you all so much, watch little Gracie pan Grammy red Carpet,” she wrote under a picture of her modelling her dress on the red carpet.
Additionally, other celebrities reacted but did not say much about the Grammys. Under the announcement of SOJA winning the Grammy on The Shade Room Instagram post, Beenie Man simply commented a stern emoji with “smh” and Shenseea commented, “Why unu dweet???”
Shenseea also posted the video below.
Foota Hype also left a message on his Instagram page which is directed to the Jamaican entertainers. Monday morning he posted a video of the legendary Bob Marley speaking about music, saying, “Well we play music eno and we don’t play to suit critics. We play what we want to play, when we want to play it, how we want to play it and we have a reason why we play it to.”
In Foota Hype’s caption he wrote, “Listen to the God the gong @bobmarley unu stop mek demon mek unu destroy the music fi promises and money.”
Safaree was also among the many people who were against the award being given to SOJA.
