Dancehall artiste Busy Signal who has performed at multiple Reggae Sumfest stagings in the past, was not present on the 2024 show, he was asked why, and while replying he explained his bad experience at the show, labelling it as “unprofessional”.
According to Busy Signal whose real name is Reanno Devon Gordon, the Reggae Sumfest organizers treat international artistes better than the local artistes despite the international artistes being unable to “outdo” local artistes each year.
“They don’t appreciate us, as local artistes, I’ve seen the treatment that international artiste got,” he stated before asking, “Name one Sumfest… Name one Sumsplash, that an international artiste out do a local artiste?… There’s none!”
This comment comes on the heels of allegations that several local artistes were treated poorly in favour of Babyface at the event. Notably, Valiant who did not perform, despite being booked and turning up at the event, detailed that he was being treated poorly hence he did not perform.
In the interview done with Anthony Miller of Entertainment Report(ER), the deejay went on to recall being approached by “Joe” multiple times, but the organisers were “unprofessional”, he also called the setup “garbage, big garbage”.
He next detailed a bad experience when he was scheduled to perform for an hour per “contract” but was told to cut his performance short after about “17 minutes” into his performance, “it’s unprofessional, i am used to professionalism worldwide, you know, i’m just coming from Summer Jam, in Germany.”
Busy Signal outlined that he has several other festivals to perform at soon and those shows are bigger than Sumfest and bring better experience for him.
