Canada Ends Reggae Girlz Olympic Dream

Jamaica was looking for a miracle to overturn a 2-0 deficit in Toronto, Canada. The Reggae Girlz got off to a good start, pressing Canada nonstop to hinder them from creating any clear-cut opportunities for the first 30 minutes.

The Reggae Girlz then capitalized on Canada’s inefficiencies by grabbing the lead late into the first half. Without Jamaica’s captain on the field, Drew Spence stepped up and scored a world-class free-kick to keep Jamaica’s dream alive.

However, despite Jamaica’s best efforts, the lead did not last long as Canada quickly equalized from a set-piece situation of their own.

Canada took advantage of the shift in momentum and took the lead early on into the start of the second half. Following the goal, Canada extended their lead to 4-1 on aggregate.

Jamaica looked much more organized and threatening in attack as they pushed to cut the deficit. Canada stood tall in defence to restrict the Reggae Girlz attacks to come away with a 4-1 win over the two legs to qualify for the Olympic Games.
