Chief Richard Currie Shoots Marroon Short Film “A Message For The World”

In a recent post on his Instagram page, the popular and sometimes controversial Chief Richard Currie of the Accompong Maroons wrote that he and his fellow maroons were preparing a message for the world. In the short clip posted along with the message earlier today, Gareth ‘the truth’ Cobran can be seen at a table arranging up camera equipment as Currie passes by.
We are then shown inside a bamboo hut and taken to a window where the beauty of the Cockpit Country can be seen in all its glory. The video ends with a stoic Currie standing at the door of the hut looking out at his people. The video was tagged “Maroon Short Film” and is more than likely hinting at a collaboration between Chief Currie and Gareth Cobran who is the head of Image Development Studios(IDS).
IDS specializes in concept development and media project execution. They have worked on projects for companies such as Red Stripe, The National Comercial Bank, Digicel, as well as fast food chain companies KFC and Tastee. The studio has also collaborated with artists Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer on their music videos.
Since He was appointed chief, Currie has consistently tried to reach out to the public to educate them about the many customs of the Maroons, and their struggle to protect the Cockpit Country from Mining.
It would not be surprising for him to release a film about the indigenous Maroons of Jamaica.
