Clarendon police have arrested a man suspected to be involved in a car stealing scheme in the parish after he showed up at the Lionel Town Police Station driving a stolen motor vehicle.
The man who remains unidentified, reportedly visited the police station driving a 2015 Toyota Axio on Sunday, October 16, to visit two other men who are remanded in custody.
Based on the arrest just days before of those men who attempted to sell a similar vehicle, officers on duty probed the matter further. It was then discovered that the 2015 Axio was reported stolen in another parish and it had been registered to one of the men in jail.
The Constabulary’s serial number restoration expert also confirmed that the vehicle’s chassis number and engine number had been tampered with.
The suspected car thief was subsequently apprehended whilst at the station.
His alleged accomplices, identified as Kemar Meeks, 38, and Tyrone Smith, 30, both of a Clarendon address have since been charged with fraudulent use of a registration plate, uttering forged documents and forgery.
They are awaiting a date to appear in the Clarendon Parish Court in May Pen.
