D’Angel and Dancehall Queen Carlene Discuss Beenie Man’s Absence from His Children’s Lives – Watch Video
Dancehall artiste Michelle Downer, professionally known as D’Angel, and Dancehall Queen Carlene Smith have opened up about co-parenting with their ex, Beenie Man, whom the pair said was absent from multiple of his children’s lives.
Beenie Man, born Moses Davis, dated Carlene during the 90s, and he and the former dancer share a daughter, Crystal, while the deejay and his ex-wife, D’Angel, whom he separated from in 2011, both have a son, Marco Dean. Beenie Man shares several other children with other partners.

D’Angel and Carlene discussed Beenie Man’s parenting during a broader discussion with Razor B about the necessity for both parents to be involved in their child’s life on D’Angel’s Live at 5 live stream on Tuesday.
During the live stream, Carlene expressed that it was difficult for children not to have a relationship with their father, especially if he was an iconic public figure. Carlene shared that Marco Dean, Crystal, and Beenie Man’s son with Janet Dunphy, Moses Davis Jr., were particularly affected by the distance between them and their father.
Carlene highlighted that it was very difficult for the children to be the last to find out something about their father when it was already circulating publicly. She also disclosed that his absence had affected his eldest child, Desha-Gaye, when she was younger. Carlene clarified that Beenie Man was very present during Crystal’s childhood, and though he was still present, it was not how it should be.
D’Angel shared that it was up to her and Carlene to fill the gap left by Beenie Man.

“When you’re a public figure, icon, and you’re not a part of your children’s lives [ … ] it hurts them to the core, whereas mothers [ … ] like myself and Carlene, a we have to stand in the gap for our children,” D’Angel stated.
Noting that the Romie deejay was not the father he should be, D’Angel disclosed that Marco Dean had not heard from Beenie Man for a long time. D’Angel further expressed that Beenie Man needs to understand that his children needs him. She went on to share that, due to jealousy, one of Beenie Man’s exes had prevented him from performing with her, thus interfering with her income to take care of her son.
