Several Lawyer offices located on Duke Street in downtown Kingston, which were reportedly storing documents crucial to Vybz Kartel’s murder case, have been destroyed in a fire. The building was shared by at least seven attorneys, one of whom is reportedly representing alleged gang leader Tesha Miller.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade divisional commander for Kingston and St. Andrew, Senior Superintendent Patrick Gooden, disclosed that all the documents that were being stored at the building were destroyed in the fire. Reports state that the building was constructed of concrete and steel, with slab and zink roofing.

Following the fire, Kartel’s attorneys filed a habeas corpus application on Monday to have him released from prison because of problems the defence did not wish to disclose. According to the Jamaica Observer, up until recently, one of the offices located at the building was occupied by Kartel’s attorney, Isat Buchanan.

Superintendent Gooden has also shared that the remains of the building have been visited by investigators several times since the fire. As they attempt to identify what initiated the fire, the investigators have highlighted the building’s wooden flooring.

After being notified of the fire at 2:07 a.m. last Thursday, members of the York Park Fire Station found the building completely engulfed in flames.

Reacting to news of the fire, popular Vybz Kartel fan page Shemar McKennon has accused the authorities of starting the fire. “Feds bwoy dem bun dung John Clark/Isat Buchanan office thinking they could destroy the files. Its 2024, Files are stored on cloud u  f**king idiots!” McKennon wrote in a post on Tuesday.
