Dorraine Samuels Passes Away at Age 59

Jamaica’s most loved News personally Dorraine Samuels lost her bottle with cancer this afternoon March 26 2019. It’s reported that she have been batting with the deadly disease for some time now, she recently did a operation. Mrs Samuel is known to be a long time employee of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, she started working with them back in 1981 after finishing 5th in the Miss Jamaica competition.

She was recognized as a great speaker at the pageant show and was offered a job at RJR shortly after. After hearing about Dorraine’s passing the prime minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness personally send condolences to her family and recognizes her great work in media.

“Dorraine inspired the nation as she shared remarkable human interest stories and presented the history of Jamaica in living color.” he said, adding that “Dorraine Samuels has shaped the lives of so many who grew up listening to her on morning radio and her effortless presentation of the nightly news. She will forever be in our hearts,” Mr. Holness concluded.

In the meantime, there have been an outpouring of tributes to Samuels on social media since news of her death.

Cabinet minister Daryl Vaz said it was “A sad day”, she’s truly loved by all”.

His colleague, Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke said: “You know that you are a legend when everyone is sad that your LEG of the race ENDS. Rest in peace.”

Naomi Francis, press secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, also expressed her grief. “My heart is broken. May your beautiful soul rest with the angels,” Francis said.

Dorraine Samuels was 59.

It is with a deep sense of sadness that the immediate family and the RJRGLEANER family of broadcaster Dorraine Samuels announce her passing.

Dorraine had surgery in recent weeks and we have been praying for her recovery.

However, she lost her battle with cancer this afternoon.
