On September 10th, things did not get any better as a letter from the St Ann development company concerning the opening up of two of the countries most well-known attractions went viral after it was seen where the go-ahead was given for the landing of a cruise ship on Monday, where after the travelling tourist have been allowed to enter the locations of Dunn’s River Falls and Park and Green Grotto Cave.

The ship particularly being allowed to dock is the Carnival Sunrise cruise ship, and the two attraction sites have been allowed to be opened between the hours of 8:30 a.m and 4:30 pm. The letter was confirmed to be official, as it was signed by Farrah Blake who is the director of subsidiary management, off the St. Ann development company.

Since the letter has gone viral, many Jamaicans have argued the move to be based on a double standard operation since the regular citizens are not able to access the attraction sites on the day unless they are coming from a resort or they arrived on the ship.

On Instagram, one person who goes by the handle @dushaine_partyholic posted the viral letter which had some persons commenting on the post, letting it be known that it is full time Jamaicans come together and rebel while on twitter persons were sharing the same sentiments when they saw the letter.

One individual on Twitter wrote, “On a no-movement day a cruise ship will dock in Jamaica and visitors taken to Dunn’s River Falls. The double standard continues. When will this stop? Revolution needed,”.

In response to the backlash, Senior Advisor and Strategist at the Ministry Of Tourism Delano Seiveright wrote on Twitter that “Arriving fully vaccinated cruise visitors are permitted to visit only establishments within resilient corridor certified by TPDCo (Tourism Product Development Company), & permitted to travel on trained/licensed transport. HUGE COVID-19 safety BUBBLE – workers trained, masked, sanitised, social distanced, vaxxed etc.”.

This is not easing up the opinions of the people, however, since many are still expressing their aggravation towards the government for disallowing the local citizens but enabling the tourists.
