Following her late-season resurgence under the guidance of coach Shanikie Osbourne, Elaine Thompson-Herah has parted ways with her new coach.
Thompson-Herah endured a challenging season in 2023, struggling with multiple injuries and failing to qualify for an individual event at the World Championships. After she failed to qualify, Thompson-Herah hired Osbourne to coach her for the remainder of the season.
Less than four months after their partnership, reports state that Osbourne’s time at the Thompson-Herah camp has ended. According to Radio Jamaica Sports, Osbourne has not participated in Thompson-Herah’s training for roughly a week now.
The outlet further shared speculations that the sprinter and Osbourne could not agree on payment for her services. In August, Thompson-Herah disclosed that the partnership would be temporary, as they were still figuring out if they were compatible to extend Osbourne’s time to the 2024 season.
Under Osbourne’s guidance, Thompson-Herah enjoyed a resurgence on the track, finishing third at the Zurich Diamond League meeting in 11 seconds, first place in Switzerland in 10.92 seconds, and first place once again at the Diamond League meet in Brussels in 10.84 seconds.
Thompson-Herah went on to finish third at the Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon, with a season-best clocking time of 10.79 seconds, the sprinter’s fastest finish since May 2022.
Neither Thompson-Herah nor Osbourne have officially released a statement regarding the matter, with Osbourne expressing that she will not permit the press at her training base.
