A man and his stepson were fatally shot in Brooklyn, New York, allegedly by their neighbour during a dispute captured on camera.
The victims have been identified as 47-year-old Bladimy Mathurin, who worked as a school bus driver and part-time as an Uber driver, and his 27-year-old stepson, Chin Wai Mode. Reports state that Mathurin was home Sunday night with his wife, stepson, and 10-year-old daughter at their apartment in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, when their neighbour, whose identity has not yet been released, reportedly tried to kick in their door.
The man had allegedly been antagonising the family since 2018, when they moved into the apartment. According to Mathurin’s wife, Marie Luc Delille, he went outside to confront the neighbour after he attempted to kick down their door, at which point the man took out a gun.
In footage taken during the family’s confrontation with their neighbour, Delille and the man can be seen arguing outside her apartment while her son, Mode, watches from their door. Mathurin later comes out of their apartment with a pair of scissors and confronts their neighbour, holding the scissors up to his face.
Delille attempted to pull her husband away, but he motioned for her to go back into their apartment. While she walked away and Mathurin had his back turned, their neighbour pulled out a gun and began firing at Mathurin, then turned the weapon on Mode, who ran in his direction.
The man shot Mode several times near the stairs and went on to shoot Mathurin again at his door after he had collapsed there. Their neighbour fled the building and, as of mid-Monday afternoon, has not been captured by the police.
