Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s appearance at Bob Marley‘s ‘One Love Movie’ Premiere last Tuesday is still a topic of discussion almost a week later with the latest details revealing who paid for their trip, the reason for the trip, where they stayed, where they went while on the island and who knew of their visit to the island to attend the event.

While it was a surprise to most people, a handful of people in Jamaica knew of the visit per reports. Despite most people praising the moment, some, especially from the UK have criticised the attendance, labelling it as a PR stunt and a bad gesture as Jamaica seeks to leave the Commonwealth.

Jamaica gained independence in 1962, however, the King is still the head of state. Notably, Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed he will be ‘moving on’ from the British monarchy soon.

According to one critic, “They knew this trip to Jamaica would play well with the audience they are trying to appeal to which is young and diverse… I don’t think they give a damn what the Brits think… This is all about building their brand…”

It’s also being said that Megan has her eyes on politics and the visit would be a good look for her political Asperations. “It’s election year and Meghan will be actively involved in the anti-Trump campaign… This week made her look cool and relevant,” the person told the Daily Mail.

The Expenses

As per reports from the Daily Mail, the lavish trip that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took to Jamaica via private jet was paid for by film studio Paramount Pictures. The famous couple is also said to be friends with Paramount Pictures’ CEO Brian Robbins. The film company is behind Bob Marley‘s ‘One Love’ biopic.

According to a source, Harry and Megan stayed at the 5-star Half Moon resort located in Montego Bay before the movie. 4-bedroom villas are said to go for $ 4,300 a night at the location.

After the movie premiered, the couple went to an ‘after party’ at another 5-star location, this time the Terra Nova hotel located in Kingston.

The couple also visited the Bob Marley Museum while on their trip where they did a private tour.

Meghan visited Jamaica a lot as a child and even got married to her first husband Trevor Engelson in Jamaica back in 2011.

February 14 is the date set for the release of Bob Marley: One Love Movie.
