Interview: Savage Savo Talks Gorilla Rock, Freedom Street Concert, Upcoming Album and More
Dancehall artiste Savage Savo, who is from the Grants Pen community in St. Andrew is optimistic about his latest song ‘Gorilla Rock’ being his next hit song as it continues to rack-up impressive views and reactions online.
Savage Savo whose real name is Simon Alex Daley, in a chat with Yardhype highlights that he got the grimy name from “a tender age” because his father first had the name and it was bestowed upon him by friends and relatives.
The former Saint Andrew Technical High School attendee details that ‘Gorilla Rock‘ was inspired by his friend Kreggy from the Black Eagles, which is a renowned dancing group from Jamaica that is now touring worldwide.
Designated as the Gaza Senator, the charismatic deejay who is best known for songs such as ‘Culu Culu’, ‘Rich badness’, ‘Jiggle Likkle’ and ‘Roll It’ declares that he’s looking forward to Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street Concert, noting that it will be “the show of the century I’m very excited”.

Q: When did you decide that you wanted to take on music full-time?
A: I was always doing music at church, and growing up I was doing poetry also but I think at the age 18 I decided I wanted to do music full-time.
Q: Who is your favourite Dancehall Artiste of all time(Male and Female)?
A: My favourite Dancehall artist of all time would have to be Vybz Kartel.
Q: Who’s your Favourite Reggae Artiste?
A: My favourite reggae artist is Bob Marley
Q: Which artiste would you say you was most inspired by growing up?
A: Growing up, I was most inspired by Bounty Killer.
Q: What Keeps You grounded? (Things you do to relax/chill) outside of music
A: What keeps me grounded is the time I spend with friends and family.
Q: What you love the most about Jamaica?
A: The thing I love the most about Jamaica is the culture and the creativity of the people.
Q: Which country outside of Jamaica you feel most loved?
A: The United States.
Q: Which do you hold in higher regard, and why: Reggae Grammy Award or a song that peaks at #30 on the Billboard hot 100 chart?
A: I would say the Hot 100 billboard charts because it has a higher recognition and pushes your music on an international stage.
Q: How do you usually come about your lyrics, write/freestyle and has the process changed over the years?
A: My lyrics usually come by planning the song I wanna write about, depending on the situation I then figure out how cleverly I could put that into words.
Q: What will be your next musical endeavour?
A: I have a lot of songs to be released soon just paving the way for them with this big international hits song called Gorilla Rock.
Q: Any of your family members in Music?
A: I have other families in music, but I’m the first person to make it international. I’m trying to get my daughter in music, but I had to trick her to get her to do a song with me called Dance by Savage Savo and Sunshine.
Q: Any Plans to drop Album or EP in the near future?
A: The release date for my album will be announced soon hopefully by end of December or January.
