Veteran Jamaican event promoter Isaiah Laing shares his views on Vybz Kartel choosing December 31 for his ‘Freedom Street’ concert. According to the former policeman, he’s content with Kartel’s event being on the 31, he would only be upset if it was on the 26th.
He also pointed out that he will be attending the Downsound Entertainment run concert which is set for the National Stadium in Kingston.
“Kartel is here and is a new phenomenon, no problem cause i will be going to Kartel show also, i don’t have a problem, but don’t try to complete… we can’t compete with him… duh yuh show mek yuh money youth… the only problem i had is for the show to be on the same date of my date,” said Laing.
He also mentions that Kartel grew up on Sting and that he started the event when he was 26 years old. Laing informed the person he was talking to that Sting started in 1984 and from that date on he had the December 26 date and is not about to “relinquish” the date to anyone.
Notably, Laing did not talk about MC Nuffy telling him to cancel Sting and support Vybz Kartel’s show instead.
The footage was shared on Instagram where one person commented, “Freedom Street .. sting only good when there’s a clash everyone is anticipating. These new artistes don’t clash, Sting is finished.”
On the other hand, another person said, “One Jamaica one entertainment industry on the rise let’s do this for uplifting the nation dec26 keeps everyone motion then Dec31 everyone motion n feel nice n fuljoy life.”
Sting 2024 will run for three days for the first time, from December 26 to 28th, Vybz Kartel’s concert will be a few days later on New Year’s Eve.
