Jada Pinkett Smith, the talented actress and estranged wife of actor Will Smith, has been making headlines lately for her ongoing reflections on her past relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur. The two celebrities shared a close bond during their youth, and Jada continues to openly discuss their connection, keeping Tupac’s memory alive.
In a recent interview, as she promoted her book, Jada expressed her deep admiration and love for Tupac, emphasizing the impact she had on his life while Tupac was incarcerated at Rikers. She described their friendship as one rooted in a shared understanding and intellectual connection. Jada’s heartfelt words reveal the profound influence she had on Tupac in one of the darkest times in his life with her loyal support.
According to Jada, while Tupac was locked away in Rikers, he asked her to marry him. However, Jada declined the offer but continued to support him. Jada also admitted that Tupac would have divorced her as soon as he was free from jail.
“Because of our friendship and because of everything we have been through together, he just wanted to feel that solidified foundation because I promise you he would have married me and divorced me the same time his ass left jail,” Jada outlined.
It is no secret that the pair bonded while attending the Baltimore School for the Arts together based on old videos and pictures of the two. Pinkett Smith was also featured in two of Tupac’s music videos. In 1994, when Shakur was convicted of sexual abuse, she posted $100,000 bail to ensure his release from jail.
She and the Keep Ya Head Up rapper formed a close friendship for many years, and it did not seem to end. It has also been revealed by her that she met Tupac when she was selling drugs, and they became close friends afterwards.
On another platform, Jada said she and Tupac were soulmates. She went on to explain the reasons why they did not have a romantic relationship despite their strong connection by stating, “It was almost like God made us that way. It’s like, ‘Look, we’ll put y’all together, alright? Y’all gonna be a dynamic duo, but I’ll tell you right now: I’m gonna make it so you’re not gonna be able to get together,’ because that just wasn’t the purpose.”
