For the most part, Jamaica played the ball long in hope that it would stick to one of the Jamaican’s feet but in most cases, the ball went right back into Jamaica’s half placing the Mexicans on the front foot many times.

The long ball up the field was clearly a tactical ploy by couch Whitmore as he seemingly trusted in his defence to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

The Jamaicans saw a draw in sight after much defending, however, the Mexicans scored in the 98th minute to win the match.

Notably, many of Jamaica’s star players including Michail Antonio and Leon bailey did not play because of restrictions by England due to COVID-19.

Jamaica is currently ranked 48th in world FIFA rankings while Mexico is ranked at 9th and USA at 10th.

The Reggae Boyz have only qualified for the World Cup once, back in 1998.
