Jamaica’s Women’s National Football Team clinched a 3-2 victory over South Africa on Monday night, completing a dominant 6-2 aggregate score in their two-legged series. This third-ever meeting between the two teams took place at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex, where Jamaica showed resilience after a challenging first half.
The Reggae Girlz started strong, dictating possession and applying pressure from the kick-off. However, South Africa stunned the home crowd with a 19th-minute goal, taking a surprising lead.
The South African team, showing significant improvement from their previous match, defended resolutely and looked dangerous on the counter-attack. At the end of the first half, Jamaica was still trailing, and pundits were quick to point out the team’s lackluster performance.
Commentators noted that star forward Khadija Shaw’s decision-making had been poor, with the entire Jamaican squad coming under criticism for their first-half display.
The Reggae Girlz came out with renewed energy after the break. They applied constant pressure on South Africa’s defense, and in the 58th minute, Jamaica leveled the score with a well-placed goal.
Just 17 minutes later, Jamaica took the lead with another clinical strike in the 75th minute. The team’s persistence and skill were evident as they controlled the tempo of the match for most of the second half, howver Jamaica was stunned again in the 89 minute after the African team scored a second goal, ending the match 3-2.
