Jamaica Holds Emergency Press Conference For Hurricane Beryl: See Scenes From Eastern Caribbean Impact – Watch Videos

A hurricane watch was placed in effect for Jamaica on Monday as Beryl continues to make its way across the Caribbean. Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the Eastern Caribbean on Monday and is currently at category 4.

According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, the country may possibly begin experiencing hurricane conditions across the island within 48 hours. The Met Service also shared that Beryl is traveling approximately 31 kilometers per hour (20 mph) towards the west-northwest.

The hurricane is projected to continue its quick westward to west-northwestward motion during the next few days. Additionally, Beryl’s centre is projected to pass the Windward Islands and travel across the southeastern Caribbean Sea later today as the hurricane draws closer to Jamaica.

Jamaicans have been advised to make the necessary preparations ahead of the expected dangerous weather conditions. In light of the potential hurricane condition, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) issued a notice requesting all service members currently on leave to contact their unit headquarters.

“In light of Hurricane BERYL, all personnel on leave are advised to immediately contact their parent Unit to confirm their safety and receive further instructions,” the notice states.

Following Beryl’s landfall in multiple Caribbean countries, footage and photos of the hurricane’s effects have began circulating online. In the videos and photos taken in the midst of the dangerous hurricane and after its passing, the remains and debris from buildings and fallen trees can be seen.
