Today Sunday is quite an interesting day with 4 very important World Cup Qualifier matches lined up. These integral face-offs will help the teams at the top of the table, to extend their lead and will offer those struggling behind, to get a chance to make a change.
One of the matches that many people are looking to see is the game set to take place at 5:00 Pm, with Jamaica facing off against Canada at the National Stadium.
The match is very unique because it has been the first World Cup Qualifier showdown in over a decade between the two teams with the last game of this nature ending in a 3-0 victory for Jamaica, while they were on the campaign to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with goals from Omar Cummings, Marlon King and the late Luton Shelton.
It is also important to note that since the World Cup Qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup in France, this is the first time since then that the two teams will face off in the final round of the qualifying campaign.
At this time, Jamaica is still on one point as they lost their last match against the United States by 2 goals while Canada is currently on 6 points after 4 matches, playing Mexico to 1-1 draw in the last game.
As a change, the Reggae Boyz will bring in midfielder Anthony Grant, while Canada is also gearing up to make adjustments to their team so the showdown is surely gearing up to be a competitive and tactical one.
Other World Cup Qualifier games set for the day are Costa Rica vs El Salvador set to take place at San Jose’s National Stadium, Panama vs USA which is booked to be kicked off at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez, while Mexico and Honduras will face off at Estadio Azteca.
Currently, Jamaica sits at the bottom of the group on in 8th place as seen below.
