The Guyanese police have taken into custody a taxi driver following Thursday’s shooting of Navar George Barton, a Jamaican-born singer who was living in the country.
Barton resided in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, and was with his girlfriend at the time of his murder. The young woman disclosed that they were together in their bedroom when there was a knock at their door.
After Barton’s call to find out who was at the door went unanswered, the pair looked through their window and saw the taxi driver as well as another man at their front door.
Reports from the Jamaica Gleaner state that Barton left to see what the men wanted, and an argument developed over money, which was overheard by the girlfriend.
Two loud explosions were later heard, and she found Barton lying motionless on his back with blood running from his head. According to the young woman, the taxi driver and the other man fled the property.
Barton was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital but had already succumbed to the gunshot wound he had received to the head.
While the 37-year-old taxi driver has been apprehended by the police, the other male has not yet been identified.
