Jamaica’s Major Crimes declined by 2% this year

According to the latest Jamaica Constabulary Force – (JCF) – Crime Statistics, criminal acts considered as major crimes namely, homicide have decreased by 2% thus far in 2020.

The parish that recorded the largest decline is the St. James Police Division.

The tourism capital recorded 143 murders in 2019 whilst this year it recorded only 115 such cases.

Still, the St. James’s Police Division remains one of the top parishes as it relates to cases in homicide.

St Andrew South and St Catherine North tops the list in homicide cases tallying at 137 and 122 respectively.

The Western Kingston Police Division records an increase in homicide cases weighing in with 57, which is the highest increase this year, bringing their tally to 92.

Portland, records 10 murders, keeping them as the Parish that is the least affected by homicides.

Between 1st of January to the 12th of December his year, there has been a total of 1026 shooting injuries, a 2% decrease in comparison to 1047 recorded during the same period last year.

2020 also reflects a 15% decrease in the number of reported rape cases, while both robberies, as well as burglaries, have decreased by 18%.
