A member of the Jamaica Defense Force was shot and killed around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. The deceased man’s identity has not been released to the public, but it has been confirmed that he is from Spanish Town, St. Catherine, according to the Jamaica Star.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the soldier was murdered in the Papine area while he was operating a public transportation vehicle. He was reportedly travelling along the Rocky Road area, between UTECH and the National Water Commission system, when he was shot in the back of the head.
Officers have speculated that the soldier was shot from within the vehicle by one of the many passengers who fled from the car when the man was shot.
Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, the head of St. Andrew and Central Police Divisions, has affirmed that investigations into finding and apprehending the culprits have already been launched.
