JLP Councillor Christopher Townsend Charged For Speeding, Remains In Custody For Fraud
Christopher Townsend, Councillor for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Olympic Gardens Division in West Central, St Andrew was fined $5000 for breaching the Road Traffic Act.
Townsend appeared in the St. Ann Parish Court where he was ordered to pay for a speeding ticket. However, was remanded in custody for a separate charge of aiding and abetting the fraudulent use of a licence plate in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court.
According to reports, the accused who owns a fleet of buses illegally permitted a bus operator to use a license plate that is registered to one of his vehicles. Police officers of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch discovered this when they seized the bus with the false license plate.
He is being represented by prominent attorney-at-law, Christopher Townsend, who disclosed that a date for the hearing has not been set.
