The decision to reserve judgment was made last Wednesday and disclosed by attorney Oswest Senior-Smith, who represented Brooks’ co-accused, Andre Hinds. Senior-Smith urged the Appeal Court to overturn both the convictions and sentences of the two men.

Attorney Hugh Wildman appeared on behalf of Brooks. The appeal comes after Brooks, was sentenced in 2021 to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew. As part of his sentencing, Brooks was ordered to serve 22 years before becoming eligible for parole.

The case remains emotionally charged, especially for Mavado and his family. On December 9, Mavado shared a heartfelt photo of himself and Dantay on social media with the caption, “My son.❤️.” Just days earlier, Brooks publicly wished his father a happy birthday.

Commenting on his sister Skye’s post, which featured several photos of her and Mavado, Brooks wrote, “Happy birthday daddy @mavadogully.”

The appeal’s outcome is highly anticipated, as supporters of Mavado await the decision that could potentially alter Dantay’s sentences. Until then, the Court of Appeal’s judgment remains pending.
