Kartel Responds To Drake’s Music Being Streamed More Than His in Jamaica on SPOTIFY

The Jamaica Gleaner published a report highlighting the fact that Drake’s music is being played more than any other Jamaican artiste locally on the Spotify streaming platform. As listed in the report, the most-streamed artiste in Jamaica for 2021 is Drake, with Alkaline in the second spot and Vybz Kartel the third most streamed.

The report also went on to state that Skillibeng is at number seven while fellow St. Thomas artiste Popcaan is placed at number 15, Dexta Daps is at number 32, Chronic Law is not too far behind at 34 and Shenseea placed at 43 to round off the top 50 most streamed artistes locally.

In reply to these findings, Vybz Kartel took to social media and stated, “JAMAICA PEOPLE STOP “WORRY UNUH FARIN MIND” AND START SUPPORTING LOCAL MUSIC MORE. AND DON’T TELL ME NO CRAP BOUT PRODUCTION QUALITY CAUSE A LOT A DEM FOREIGN SONG DE ARE POORLY PRODUCED AND SOUND LIKE SHIT QUALITY WISE.”

With the fact that his arch-rival, Alkaline is one step above him, he did not make note of that and instead suggests that dancehall music is his own and people locally should do more to support the genre, “NUH MATTER WHO 1ST, FROM DANCEHALL WIN WE ALL WIN, STOP PLAY WID ME GENRE #DANCEHALLCYAA STALL MEMBER A WE INVENT HIP-HOP. ( Yes ppl free to listen what they want and if foreigners are in the top ten I’m not surprised but still…we have a plethora of local genres and artistes to choose from so it puzzles me that a foreigner is at #1 ..ppl cut it out!”
