Jamaica Reggae Girl Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has revealed that she successfully underwent surgery after breaking her leg during Manchester City W.F.C.’s match against West Ham.
City faced off with West Ham on April 21 in the Women’s Super League (WSL), with City claiming a 5-0 victory. After securing two goals during the match, Shaw exited the field limping and did not return after halftime.
Following the match, Shaw was spotted wearing a protective boot, which fueled speculation that she may be seriously injured. The footballer has since revealed the extent of her injuries, sharing in a post on her Instagram page that she feels gutted after suffering a broken leg.
“Gutted to know I suffered a broken foot in the game against west ham but grateful the surgery went well. The greatest story are those who define all odds,” Shaw stated. The Manchester City record scorer also extended her gratitude to her supporters and said that she would be working hard to get back on the field.
“Thanks to everyone for the heart warming well wishes on my road to recovery. I appreciate every single one. I will continue working hard off the pitch during my rehab and I can’t wait to be back doing what I love. God is able 🙏🏾.”
It is expected that Shaw will sit out the remainder of the WSL season, igniting questions about how City will fair without one of their top scorers in their upcoming matches. The English club is scheduled to face Arsenal on May 5 and then Aston Villa on May 18.
