Dancehall artiste Laden who is currently behind bars along with two other men will have his case aired in the Santa Cruz Parish Court today November 2nd, 2020.
The former Big Ship dancehall artiste whose real name is Okeefe Aarons, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm with ammunition on Wednesday, 28th of October.
The two other males charged are 21-year-old Saaion Ebanks whose from a St Elizabeth address and a 16 year old minor.
According to Laden’s attorney-at-law Charles Benbow, the dancehall artiste is looking forward to being “vindicated”. He went on to told the Jamaica Observer that even though the artiste is optimistic, getting bail now is highly unlikely.
“The officer will be sending the alleged firearm to Kingston for ballistic testing to see if it used in the commission of any crime on record… Without that ballistic report coming back, the court will be reluctant to offer bail” he explains.
As reported by the Senior Superintendent of the constabulary communications department, a black Mercedes was signaled to stop by law enforcers about 10:40 pm last Wednesday night, the vehicle reportedly stopped then sped off as the police approached.
A high-speed chase developed after which the police observed something being thrown from the car via the small sun-roof opening located at the top of the vehicle.
After catching up with the car, the men were arrested by the police and brought back to the spot where the object was thrown out.
After the entire parameter was searched, an unlicensed pistol was found along with a 9mm bullet, the men were subsequently taken into custody, where they were slapped with the charges.
If convicted, Laden and the other men could be looking at years in prison.
