A male student at Tivoli Gardens High School in Kingston was taken into custody and charged after having a physical altercation with a teacher. The tussle the teenager had with the senior teacher, who is 56-year-old, reportedly left her with injuries to her face, upper body and breast.
According to reports, the boy, who was on suspension, had still returned to the school on Monday and went into the senior teacher’s classroom where she was conducting her lessons. It is said that she ordered him to leave the class, but he refused to leave, which lead up to the teenager allegedly shoving her.
A video was captured by another student in the classroom, showing the schoolboy and the teacher fighting as she continues to approach the student who steps back several times. The teacher subsequently grabs up a desk to use in the fight, but the boy rips it from her hands and throws it away.
As the fight continues, the laughter and the cheers from many students also continue in the background. one student can be heard yelling, “she meet her match”, which was highlighted by an Instagram user who remarked that the statement gives the impression that there have been issues with the teacher on previous occasions.
The video concluded with the teacher and the schoolboy draping each other, which is when other male students intervened to separate them.
While the teacher reportedly had to receive medical treatment for injuries, the boy was taken into custody and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. The student should also appear in juvenile court, but the date has not yet been announced.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, Commanding officer of the Kingston Western Division, released a statement that the police are concerned about multiple issues regarding the institution and they are working on arranging a meeting with the principal.
