Lincer Lopez, a 21-year-old man, tragically drowned in Lake Waxahachie on Saturday, just one hour after his baptism, while attempting to rescue a teenage girl from drowning, according to local authorities.

Lopez was part of a large church group from Garland, Texas, that had gathered at the lake to celebrate multiple baptisms. The joyous occasion turned tragic when the young girl began to struggle in the water around 12:45 p.m.

Without hesitation, Lopez, who had been unable to sleep the night before due to excitement over his baptism, jumped into the lake to save her. Despite his efforts, he began to struggle himself.

A nearby boater, Jacob Bell, managed to pull the girl from the water and performed CPR, successfully reviving her. Both were rushed to a local hospital, where Lopez was pronounced dead.

Lopez’s family described him as a selfless and hardworking individual. He worked in construction and regularly sent money back to his family in Mexico. His uncle, Jacobo Lopez, expressed deep sorrow, calling him a hero who sacrificed his life to save another.

The family has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to send Lopez’s body back to his family in Mexico.

Jacob Bell, still processing the event, shared that his own brother had drowned when he was just three years old. He empathized deeply with Lopez’s family, acknowledging the profound loss they now face. Lake Waxahachie is located about 30 miles south of Dallas.
