Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Raping and Impregnating 9YO Girl in Ohio – Watch Video

A man accused of raping and impregnating a nine-year-old Ohio girl was sentenced to life imprisonment. The accused, identified as Gerson Fuentes, was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of rape.

However, the 28-year-old initially pleaded not guilty to the felony of raping a minor.

According to authorities, this followed a July police interview wherein he admitted, through an interpreter, to raping the girl twice. A trial was scheduled for this year but will no longer happen since he pleaded guilty on Wednesday.

Fuentes was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after 25 to 30 years on the same day he pleaded guilty.

In Court, Judge Julie Lynch said that the prosecutors and defence attorneys recommended the sentence in a plea deal. She also described the sentencing recommendation as a “hard pill for this court to swallow.”

Reports indicate that the 9-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by Fuentes, her mother’s boyfriend, who was living at their home. A few weeks later, when she turned 10, she travelled to Indiana with her mother to terminate the pregnancy. As a result, a probe into the doctor who conducted the abortion was set in motion by the Indiana attorney general.

According to CNN, the case of this young girl garnered global attention when an Indianapolis doctor revealed to the Indianapolis Star that she had performed an abortion on a 10-year-old girl from Ohio last summer.

The disclosure of why the girl had to travel to Indiana for this service sparked a national debate on abortion rights, as it came after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, thereby ending the federal right to abortion.

According to Dr Caitlin Bernard, the physician who conducted the abortion, the girl was six weeks and three days into her pregnancy at the time of the procedure.
