Man Stabbed to Death over $150JMD in Portland

A Portland family is in turmoil after a game of cards turned deadly, resulting in the death of 34-year-old farmer Julian Minott’s life over $150. As per reports, Minott was gambling with a group of men when a verbal dispute escalated, leading to two men brandishing knives and fatally stabbing him before fleeing the scene.

Minott’s mother, Beverly Sullivan, recounted the events, stating that the argument erupted when Minott decided to stop gambling after losing his money. Despite his attempts to avoid confrontation, the situation escalated, resulting in the fatal attack.

Two men were taken into police custody in connection with the incident that took place on April 19. Sullivan told the Jamaica Star that she rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news but received the devastating call of her son’s passing en route.

“I heard that there was about a $150 and he took up his money and said he is finished and den di boy dem say dem want dem money… It was the worst call ever, but I tried my best to keep strong because his babymother was there crying. So I had to keep courage for her,” said Sullivan.

Despite her grief, she also expressed that she’s remaining strong for Minott’s partner, who was also present at the hospital.

Describing her late son as a hard worker with a jovial personality, Sullivan highlighted Minott’s dedication to farming and his willingness to help others. She acknowledged his outspoken nature but emphasized that he harboured no ill will towards anyone.
