Man to be Sentenced in Trinidad for Raping Baby Mother Who he Lived With

A man from Penal, located in Trinidad, is set to be sentenced next week by a High Court judge after admitting to raping his common-law wife in 2018.

The incident occurred when the woman, recovering from abdominal surgery, refused his demands for sex following a heated argument over rental arrears with their landlord.

Despite her pleas, he proceeded to rape her on a mattress at their apartment. The victim had initially contacted the police during the argument, leading them to warn the man.

However, after their departure, he insisted on sexual intercourse, eventually resorting to force.

The accused, whose identity is protected to safeguard the woman, entered a guilty plea during a virtual appearance before Justice Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds.
