Masicka Now A Def Jam Artiste

It is now official. Dancehall star Masicka is signed to Def Jam Recordings. The song “Pieces,” a collaboration with rising Dancehall artiste Jahshii, was released under the Def Jam Recordings label.
Masicka stated that the song is one of triumph that touches on overcoming the challenges we face throughout life. These challenges mold us into warriors and help us to become successful, the 438 Dj said.
He continued by saying the song is motivational and encourages listeners to press on as victory will come. The music video for the song was released yesterday, February 14, on Masicka’s youtube channel.
Chairman and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, Tunji Balogun, confirmed the signing stating that Masicka represents Black music in a monumental way across a broad spectrum, which reflects what Def Jam Recordings stands for. He further explained that Masicka’s unique perspective and versatility have the potential to impact various markets worldwide. He believes this is the start of a special relationship and welcomes the artiste excitingly to the Def Jam family.
Executive Vice President LaTrice Burnette further solidified their position on the signing by declaring that she has been tracking the rise of the Dancehall phenomenon. She revealed that she was a lifelong fan of Dancehall and Reggae and was proud to partner with the Greatness singer.
Def Jam, based in Manhattan, New York, falls under the umbrella of the Universal Music Group. They’ve previously signed Reggae/Dancehall superstar Capleton to their label and are currently in partnership with Buju Banton. International acts such as Nas, 2 Chains, Justin Bieber, and Fredo Bang, along with others, are also signed to Def Jam Recordings.
Masicka was recently awarded a gold plaque by youtube for reaching the milestone of 1 million subscribers on the platform. He has also previously received Billboard plaques for his album 438, which peaked at number 2 on the Dancehall/Reggae charts, a German Gold plaque for his collaboration with German Rapper Bonez MC on a song called “Big Body Benz,” and multiple Irie FM Music awards.
Masicka, now 29, was born on December 4, 1993, in the parish of St Catherine. His official name is Javaun Fearon. He attended Calabar high school in St Andrew. According to sources, Masicka developed a love for making music in high school. His peers and teachers believed he would become a star in the field.

He is known for solo songs such as “Update,” “They Don’t Know,” “I Wish,” etc. He has also collaborated with many renowned artistes like Vybz Kartel (Infrared), Stefflondon (Moments), Dexta Daps (Leader), and Sean Paul (Quality), just to name a few.
