Mavado and Wife Faces Lawsuit Over Range Rover
Dancehall artiste Mavado and his wife Monique Tabby Mckenzie, who according to the Jamaica Star got married in 2012, are now facing the strong arm of the law as a complaint was filed to the Broward County Circuit court by Ally Bank, against the couple claiming that they “failed to relinquish possession” of a Range Rover they purchased in 2018.
The claims were filed on August 8, by the bank and according to Dancehall Mag, who said they saw the court documents, the value of the Range Rover was laid out to be $41,400, at which the couple in 2018, bought under a “Retail installment contract”.
According to the lawsuit, Mavado and his wife decided to pay down on the vehicle for $949.17 each however, at this point the bank is claiming that the couple owes 37,293.63 ” As of July 20, 2021″. The amount being requested by the bank was also said to be accompanied by demanded interest, costs and late charges.
As a settlement, the Bank has requested that the “Overcome” singer and Mckenzie, pay an amount between $30,001 and $50,000.
The lawsuit went on to gain further development as on August 17, both Mavado and his wife were issued summonses for which they were given 20 days to respond. The bank has also claimed that the couple has been “Unlawfully detaining and possessing the vehicle”.
They were also given a court order on August 19 to attend court via zoom, where they will need to answer to Judge Sandra Perlman with a cause to why the Range Rover should not be taken from them.
In the case the couple decides not to appear, the court would have interpreted that as them waiving their right to a hearing whereafter, the court will be able to issue what is called a “Replevin” which in simple terms is an order to take the vehicle that would have been deemed illegal to be in the possession of Mavado and his wife.
