Dante Brooks, the 18 years son of dancehall superstar Mavado was found guilty earlier today January 27th in the Home Circuit Court located in downtown Kingston for Arson, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and murder.
Brooks is being represented by Lawyer Peter Champagnie QC and he told a reporter that the verdict will be “absolutely!” appealed.
The much-anticipated trial begun on January 11th, 2021 after being earlier reported to start on January 7th. Two weeks after it starts, it’s ended with a guilty verdict for young Brooks and his co-accused Andre Hines who earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them.
Peter Champagnie predicted that a verdict would be handed down as soon as the end of January and that’s what took place.
Neither Dante nor his co-accused Andre Hines gave statements in court during the trial.
The victim’s father was the eyewitness of the case.
Dante Brooks is scheduled to be sentenced on March 10th.
Mavado took to his Instagram a couple of weeks ago to send a positive message to his son as he fights for his future. Mavado wrote in the caption, “I love you son”.
The Gully God also released a new song titled “Not Perfect” whereby he touched on the current situation his son Dante is going through, outlining that people love to talk even when they don’t know the true story.
Mavado is yet to react to the verdict direct online however he posted a video clip hours ago with his latest song, reminding us that he is not perfect.
The murder that was committed on June 5th, 2018 saw the victim Lorenzo Thomas losing his head. A witness statement given to the police stated, “Memba di boss want him head” and Thomas’ neck was cut.
2018 was the same year the Gully Side artiste, visited Jamaica but quickly left the country due to being shot at in his home community of Cassava Piece.
Afterwards, there was a big uproar in Cassava piece resulting in several murders.
