The confirmed patient of the monkeypox virus who had travelled to Jamaica from the United Kingdom (UK) has reportedly fled the hospital and is now on the run.
According to sources, the man was isolated at the May Pen Hospital and is presumably feared by medical professionals to now be at the most contagious stage of the virus. He allegedly escaped by breaking a window at the hospital and then leaving in a car that was waiting for him.
A search is currently underway for the escapee.
Recently, Dr. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness informed the public that Jamaica has confirmed the first case of the monkeypox virus. He stated that the man reported to the Public Health system on July 5, after arriving in the country five days before.
Monkeypox is a viral disease that is a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridaee. It includes symptoms such as fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes.
