A thirty-four-year-old mother from Atlanta allegedly shot her 17-year-old son multiple times after the pair were engaged in a disagreement over a video game console.
Reports state that Atlanta police officers went to the home of Jaquana Butler and her son in southwest Atlanta after they were alerted that someone had been shot on the premises. The teen was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Butler was identified as her son’s shooter, with officers disclosing that their preliminary investigation found that she had pulled out a gun and fired during a heated argument over a video game console. Following the incident, Butler was arrested last week and charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children.
According to the Daily Mail, Butler has had multiple run-ins with the law, and in 2012, she was charged with child abuse. Butler later received six years of probation in 2019 after she was found guilty of second-degree child cruelty, child cruelty by causing excessive physical or mental pain, and family violence battery stemming from an incident in 2016.
Prior to the shooting of her son, her most recent offence was in April, when she was charged with simple battery.
