In disturbing body cam footage, police officers can be seen storming into a house, kicking down the door of the bathroom, and rescuing a 2-year-old toddler who appeared to have been held underwater by her mother during an act of cruelty.
On Saturday morning, a 15-year-old called the police to their home. It was reported that the officers heard a commotion as children were screaming and asking for assistance. When officers kicked down the door of a Michigan home, they found the mother holding down the toddler in the bathtub. The toddler was immediately rescued and taken to the hospital, where she was treated.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the 2-year-old girl had been stabbed in the neck and chest and was not breathing when officers arrived at the scene. They began to perform life-saving measures on her and it was captured on the police body cam.
There were two children under the age of five who were allegedly stabbed by their mother, and one of them nearly drowned as a result. Fortunately, the toddler was not severely injured.
It was discovered that a four-year-old boy had also been stabbed inside the house. Two uninjured girls were in the home at the time of the attack, aged 8 and 15.
Initial treatment was provided to the younger children in Jackson, then they were transferred to Ann Arbor for further treatment. It was expected that they would be released from the hospital on Monday.
It has been revealed to the public that the mother of the child was Jessica Deirdre Edward-Ricks, 35, and a database of inmate records listed her with charges of assault, two counts of assault with intent to murder, as well as four counts of neglect.
Authorities believe that the mother of the children ingested cleaning fluid as well, so she was taken to the hospital for treatment following her arrest. Next week Tuesday is the scheduled date for the woman’s arraignment, according to the police chief.
