Mother Stork Drops Premature Baby to its Death to Ensure The Survival of Her Other Babies – Watch Video
In a poignant example of the harsh realities of life in the wild, a baby stork was tragically dropped to its death by its own mother. The mother stork made the difficult decision to sacrifice her defective chick in order to increase the chances of survival for her other two babies.
Footage of this incident has since surfaced online, showcasing the lengths to which animals will go to protect the survival of their offspring.
The mother of three stood inside her nest above her chicks, one of which was born prematurely. The immature chick was plucked from next to its siblings by its mother, who dropped it twice while trying to take it to the edge of the nest.
After retrieving the chick, the stork held it outside of the nest and, for a second, stood there with the baby in her beak before dropping it outside of the nest and watching it land on the ground.
