Queen of rap, Nicki Minaj released the much-anticipated music video for her song “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” moments ago and it’s already getting good reviews. The song has been out for two months now, racking up millions of views on YouTube now her fans are blessed with the official visuals.
The dancehall-inspired song, laced with hip-hop and carnival sounds, is witty and grimy at the same time with lyrics reminding us of her Caribbean roots, “bad gyal” ways and lavish lifestyle.
Some lyrics, “Who the fuck told bitches they was me now? I knew these bitches was slow I ain’t know these bitches senile Married a shooter case you Niggas tried to breathe loud Boom your face off then I tell him cease fire I’m the A, B side 700 on them horses when we fixing to leave But I’on fuck with horses since Christopher Reeves.”
The instrumental used for the song has a sample of Steve “Lenky” Marsden’s “Diwali Riddim”, which was released back in 2002 and proved to be a major hit in the dancehall genre. Two of the major hits on the clap-filled riddim are: Wayne Wonder with “No Letting Go,” and Sean Paul’s “Get Busy,” which both entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Local hits on the riddim include Bounty Killer’s “Sufferer,” Agent Sasco’s “Ruffest & Tuffest,” Danny English & Egg Nog’s “Party Time,” and Wayne Marshall’s “Overcome.”
Months ago Skeng, born Kevon Douglas, was revealed to be one of the first artistes signed to Nicki Minaj’s new record label. Since then, the artiste has been seen in Nicki Minaj’s close circle and is now featured in her latest music video.
The music video also features an appearance from popular dancehall producer DropTop as seen below:
One fan of Nicki watched the video and commented, “To those in the music industry, respect Nicki and give her flowers and crown,” while another outlined that, “honestly, no one can do it better than Nicki Minaj. her body, her skill, her PURE TALENT just keeps outshining the competition and in every way. so happy for what’s to come!! much love.”
