Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj is suing a blogger for $75,000 for defamation after the blogger called her a “cokehead” on Monday and claimed that Minaj was notorious for shoving “cocaine” up her nose. According to Rolling Stone, Minaj claims in the complaint that gossip blogger Marley Green, who professionally goes by Nosey Heaux, “falsely and maliciously” labelled her a drug addict in a Twitter video. As a result, she was “outrageously defamed,” and a “firestorm of social media attention” was ignited.
In the lawsuit, Green is quoted from the video saying that Minaj is “shoving in all this cocaine up her nose.” Green added, “I can’t even say allegedly with that ‘cause I – we know it’s true. I’m not saying allegedly on that. Nicki Minaj is a cokehead.” Minaj filed the complaint on Wednesday in federal court in New York. The complaint also highlighted that Green uttered “vile comments” about Minaj’s 1-year-old son. It outlined that while they were not actionable, they demonstrated Green’s “fundamental lack of decency” and should be taken into account as the rapper asks for punitive damages.
Minaj’s lawsuit states that the claims made by Green in the video were “false” because the “plaintiff has never used cocaine.” It indicated that, in this age, everything published on social media matters, despite Green being the “ultimate ‘nobody’…a person whose main accomplishments in life have been a string of criminal charges, bail jumping, and bad debts.” Green responded to the lawsuit in a series of social media posts and claimed in a Wednesday tweet that Minaj had threatened and harassed her. In the Tweet, Green also promised that she would counter-sue the artiste.
“Nicki Minaj has been in a rage for several days now. She threatened me, sent her barbz to harass and threaten to kill me, now doxxing me. She has gone way too far and I’m definitely suing her. #Survivingthepettys,” Green said.
Additionally, Rolling Stone stated that Bob Samini, the attorney representing Green, said that Minaj “targeted” his client because of an interview Green did with Jennifer Hugh. Hugh said she was raped in 1994 by Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who held her at knifepoint after he had accosted her at a bus stop in New York. In April 1995, Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape and sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison.
According to the statement Samini gave, Minaj’s lawsuit against Green was an act of revenge because of the interview. He said Green, who is a black lesbian female, and a rape victim, started receiving hostility and threats after Hugh appeared on her YouTube channel. He shared that he is confident the lawsuit would backfire as soon as the general public learned of the intimidation and harassment Green has been facing. Meanwhile, Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, has blasted Green as “a disgrace.” He voiced his intentions to strip Green of her moniker “Nosey Heaux” because they would seize her trademark when she is unable to pay the verdict.
